ADS-B Network - Point-to-Point

Point-to-point is the functionality required for addressed wireless communication services, e.g. the addressed guidance and control applications included in the A-SMGCS concept and other ATC functionality.

Point-to-point messages can be exchanged:

  • between mobile users (air-to-air)
  • between a mobile user and a ground-based IP address (air-to-ground)

The VDL Mode 4 point-to-point service includes mechanisms to provide efficient data transfer in reserved slots, thus avoiding loss rates and delays associated with random access.

The VDL Mode 4 digital link is compatible with network features based on ATN protocols.

Benefits:

  • Communication with efficient data transfer
  • Rapid and reliable link negotiation control functions
  • Support for gate-to-gate functionality via the network
  • Applicable to A-SMGCS, routing, guidance and control
  • Applicable to Airline Operational Communications (AOC)
  • Supports 4-Dimensional Trajectory exchange (4DT)
  • Enables Advanced Continues Decent Approach (Green Approaches)
