The VDL 4000/GA Transponder is developed for installation and use in general aviation aircraft. It is designed to interface with a cockpit display of traffic information (CDTI) and operates in accordance with the ICAO standard for VDL Mode 4 digital radio link.
Product description
The transponder is certified and delivered with an EASA Form 1 tag. This certification level allows the equipment to be used onboard aircraft for non-safety-critical applications.
The transponder allows pilots in the cockpit and air traffic controllers on the ground to "see" aircraft traffic with the highest possible precision. The core function is Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B), which is the enabling technology and vision for future air traffic management.
The VDL 4000/GA is designed to transmit, receive and decode ADS-B messages via a digital data link. It broadcasts the aircraft's position, velocity, projected track, altitude, and flight identification to other equipped aircraft in the vicinity, as well as to ground stations.
The transponders can operate autonomously outside the coverage of ground stations, whereas the addition of ground stations and a ground-based network provides increased functionality, capability and services.
The transponder supports services such that a complete gate-to-gate operation can be realised. The system supports departure clearance, en route, terminal, approach, landing, and surface movement, guidance and control operation. All aircraft equipped with the VDL4000/GA and operating within the ground station’s coverage area can benefit from receiving TIS-B traffic, FIS-B weather and other ATC information directly into the cockpit on a CDTI. DGNSS augmentation (GNS-B) for accurate surveillance and navigation is also handled by the transponder
