What is GPS?

GPS(Global Positioning System) is a satellite based navigation system.GPS Original intended for military applications, but in 1980 government made the system available for civilian use. GPs works in any weather condition, anywhere in the world. There are no subscription fee or setup charges to use GPS.

How GPS works?

GPS satellites circle the earth twice a day in a particular orbit and broadcast signal information to earth. GPS receiver’s takes the information and utilizes triangulation to calculate the user's location, GPS receiver compare the time signal was transmitted by satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tells GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now with distance measurements, the receiver can determine the users’ position and display it on the unit’s electronic map.

A GPS Signal contains 3 different bits of information pseudorandom code, ephemeris data, and almanac data.
