It has been specifically
aimed at carrying out complete test and set-up of Compatt
5 and DPT transponders. All acoustic functions, sensors
and the release mechanism can be tested prior to deployment.
The unit is battery powered and environmentally protected
to IP65 and is therefore suitable for operation in most
conditions.
The DTU is capable of transmitting
and receiving a selection of both Sonardyne WidebandT and
Tone acoustic signals in order to fully test the Compatt
5's and DPT's functionality.
It replaces Sonardyne's ANT as the primary test equipment
for Sonardyne and other acoustic instruments, both on deck
and in the workshop.
The LCD display is designed
for reading in sunlight and is back-lit for use in low-light
conditions.
Its rechargeable Lithium-Ion
battery lasts for at least eight hours of normal testing.
The results of tests performed
are stored internally in a test record which can be uploaded
to a PC via USB for long-term storage and hard-copy printout
as a permanent record of the tests.
Firmware upgrades for Compatt
5 can be stored in the DTU and downloaded to Compatts on
deck.
Initially programmed to
perform acoustic and cable-connected tests on Compatt 5
or DPTs, the DTU firmware can be upgraded to cover many
other acoustic instruments.
