In 1997, encouraged by the potential of the GMDSS market opportunity Elab decided to pursue a more aggressive expansion strategy, teaming up with an experienced and credible partner in the South of India to set up offices in Chennai, Cochin, Tuticorin, Port Blair & Visakapatanam. A high level executive management team to exploit the market potential of GMDSS equipment sale in India was formed. With this strategic pre-emptive move Elab was able to take 40% of the GMDSS market share and continues to enjoy a significant market share in the growing marine communication and navigational equipment market.
