Setting a pioneering milestone to monitor the Red Tide effect in its coastal waters, a very first of its kind, Environmental Monitoring Buoy was successfully launched by Elektronik Lab, Chennai, in Sultanate of Oman on 29th April 2009.
Occurrences of Red Tide blooms are caused by abnormal production of toxic microscopic organisms in the sea, resulting in mass mortality of marine organisms and are a common phenomenon in the coastal waters of Oman, creating havoc for the marine industry.
The launch of this Environmental Buoy, which is charged by Solar Panels and tracked by the latest Positioning equipment using GSM facility, has now provided an opportunity for the Oman Environmental Protection Agencies to study the Red Tide effect in detail.
Furthermore, it will also enhance the coastal water monitoring, by creating accurate database, received from underwater sensors, which provide information like, Oxygen,Chlorophyll, Nitrate, Turbidity, Temperature, Ph,Blue Green Algae and logs them for detailed analysis with date and time stamp.
