Photo luminescent pigments produce their own light by the bombardment of visible light (photons) falling on the surface and exciting the electrons on the outer shell of the atoms. Depending on the "charge" level, Deck Light products continue to produce their own light for in excess of 12 hours after the extraneous light source is removed.
